Western States Presidential Primary
The New West Network and Headwaters News’ Western Perspective offer good progress reports on the emergence of a Western States Primary (one of our favorite subjects). Daniel Kemmis writes, A very early caucus in one Western state might indeed help to focus national attention on Western issues. But in those terms, the greater promise lies in the ongoing effort to coordinate several Rocky Mountain primaries or caucuses on or near the same day. ... even though most of the action is currently on the Democratic side, this is not fundamentally a partisan matter, and there will be plenty of Republican action in due time. Senators Pete Knudson and Mike Dmitrich (Senate Majority and Minority Leaders) will introduce the Western States Presidential Primary authorization bill to the Utah Legislature next month. Majority Leader Jeff Alexander and Minority Leader Ralph Becker will sponsor it in the House. More information on the issue here, here, here and here.
