Hot off the press! Tax Reform Bills

This afternoon, our stellar legislative staff finalized drafts for the two tax proposals that we've been discussing.
1. Tax Reform (PDF)

2. Transportation (PDF)

The Plan for Tuesday, September 5, 2006
8:00 a.m.
Revenue and Taxation Committee Meeting
Includes a public hearing on both proposals.

10:00 a.m.
Special Meeting of the Utah Senate
W125 – this meeting is open to the public. (The House of Representatives will meet at the same time in W135.)
Following the official meetings, we will break out into caucuses for lunch and further discussion. Tuesday's meetings will help us determine whether these proposals have a chance of success, should the Governor choose to call a Special Session.

As we mentioned earlier, these are big decisions; they will impact every person in the state. We would be grateful for thoughtful input.

Will the caucus meetings be open or is just for Republican legislators?

Good question. It depends on the meeting; caucus guest policy is up to the individual caucuses.

I'm guessing you and your wife would be most interested in the caucus meetings in the House of Representatives. Since she is running as a democrat, she probably wants to attend the House Minority caucus, which is usually open to the public. They do close their meetings when weighty issues arise (like the Legacy Highway compromise). I don’t know if their caucus on Tuesday will be open or closed – you would have to call them to see. The House Majority caucus is open, most of the time. You'd have to check to make sure they will be open for Tuesday's discussions. The Senate Majority caucus meeting will be closed (in other words, limited to members of the Senate Majority, invited guests, and a few staffers).

Come to the two-hour Rev and Tax meeting, then take part in the two-hour Special Meeting of the House (or Senate) and if you haven’t had enough tax reform discussion by then, we’ll have Wayne Harper, Greg Hughes and Curt Bramble delve into the finer points with you.

Thanks for reading - and nice blog site, by the way.
