Senator Tom Hatch
Tom Hatch resigned from the Utah Senate today. 22 years of public service. Here's the letter, and a few sentences from the 3/17/2006 press release: "When Senator Hatch's term ends at the end of the year, he will have completed 22 years of public service. He served as a Garfield County Commissioner from 1984 to 1994. In 1994 he was elected to the Utah House of Representatives. Hatch worked four two-year terms in the House, where he served as Vice Chair of Executive Appropriations, Rules Committee Chairman, and Majority Leader. . . . Hatch was elected to the Utah Senate [in 2002]. In 2004, then-Speaker of the House, Marty Stephens, selected Hatch as his running mate in his bid for governor."
Said Hatch: "This has been a great experience; I am grateful for my opportunity to spend some good years in service of the citizens of District 28 - the best and most beautiful senate district on earth."

. . . and a giant of a senator rides into the sunset.
We are all better off for our association with Tom, as is Utah's educational system, public lands, and many other areas of policy. He has a gift for understanding the land, livestock, people and politics. Tom is known in urban and rural areas alike for this conservative common sense and honesty.
He is a good man.
The People of this state are better off today because of his willingness to work for them for the past two decades. I'd better stop there; this is starting to sound like an obituary (and Tom is going to be around for a good long time)!
Thanks, Tom, for all you have given. Best of luck in your new life outside public service. We will miss you.
John
Thanks John. It's been a great experience. I'll miss the good people in and around the legislature. Come January I'll probably wonder what the heck you guys are doing up there.
Keep in touch.
He screwed the citizens of his district by playing his funny little game and he knows it.
Tom Hatch is one of the most principled men I have ever met. He was always respectful and is the picture of integrity. Say what you want about his decision to drop of his senate race, but I assure he is a man of the highest character, thank you Tom for your service to Utah, and your service to those in rural Utah whose voice often gets drowned out at the political table.
"...the most beautiful senate district on Earth."
I can't think of one other thing I agree with Tom Hatch about, but he is 100% right about this.
I echo every thing capitalcarnage said about Sen. Hatch. He is honest and capable and he will be missed. Thanks for your many years of service Senator.
