A few points worth mentioning:

1 - This was the Governor's initiative.

2 - Salt Lake County endorsed it this afternoon.

3 - The money used to build the stadium (Transient Room Tax) could not be used for education or roads. We're not diminishing the amount we've committed to other state priorities. The TRT is slated to be spent for cultural and tourism purposes.

A few more points worth mentioning

- there are better ways to promote economic development

- this is a huge risk

- these are still our tax dollars even if non Utahns are paying these taxes.

Don't waste your time fighting this. It's a done deal.

Giving money to Checketts is a great idea because soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Or something like that

Better ways to use the money?

Do you see any other proposals in which the county invests $15 million (in TRT funds), to receive back $120+ million in development dollars on the table?

Would some of you prefer to spend the money on Super Bowl ads for $2.5 million a pop to advertise all the good skiing that can be had in our wonderful state? Or how about spend the whole $15 million on building a new museum or theater. The economic spin-off of that would be tremendous! -- Get real guys. For those who don’t understand that the risks are minimal, and that the benefits far outweigh the negatives on this deal, all I can say is, I’m glad you are not representing me. I would not be able to tolerate the foolishness. It actually pains me to think that this deal was almost dead if not for common sense prevailing.

You have to understand where the money is coming from before you argue the "money argument." The dollars are NOT your tax dollars, it is money that had to be used on tourism and recreation. Read before you speak.
