Utah is one step closer to having its fifth University. The institution formerly known as Utah Valley State College will soon be called Utah Valley University. The Senate approved the name change a few minutes ago (29 to 0) along with $10 million to help make the transition.

In a surprise announcement, Ira Fulton appeared on the Senate Floor and pledged to match the state’s funding with an additional $10 Million he has committed to help raise. Mr. Fulton is a visionary and I thank him for his generous commitment to a project that will bless so many in the years to come.

It is a great day to be a Wolverine!

Ira Fulton is indeed a visionary. To him, Spence Eccles, Jon Huntsman, Larry Miller, James Sorenson, et al, Thank you for giving back to our community!

And, concerning the new UVU, another great decision by our legislature. Well done!

Instead of calling it Utah Valley University, it should be called ReAL Valley University b/c tax dollars for RSL was part of the UVSC deal.

Utah Vally University (UVU) choice in education for Happy Valley. With the growth in population in Utah County this will give our childern other options in their education. Way to go lawmakers.
