How does the Legislature justify creating a fourth State sponsored University when the four we already have a grossly underfunded and underutilized?

What about the chronic problem of unstable academic freedom at UVSC?

No offense, but it seems like the Wasatch Front media and politicans (and even LaVell Edwards) has been so in love with the warm fuzzy-kumbayah side of this that there has been little or no critical discussion about the practicality.

I am a graduate of USU and I have seen that institution strained and suffer from a decrease commitment of state funds. This is true of other schools in Utah as well. I also believe that part of the dip in enrollment seen at USU and other schools is a direct result of tuition becoming unaffordable for working students and their families in Utah.

A University is a gem in any community, and I can't fault any town in Utah for wanting one- however their desire- and even a regional need- doesn't justify burdening and straining the rest of higher ed across the state.
