Straight A Student

Love it or hate it, Margaret Dayton is a conservative. Now she has the numbers to prove it.

Two conservative groups gave the freshman senator their highest ratings this year. She received a 100% from the Utah Taxpayers Association which evaluated legislators on 15 key tax and spending bills.

Dayton also received the top senate score from Utah GrassRoots. Senators Stephenson and Jenkins also received high scores, but not as high as Dayton. GrassRoots evaluates the voting record of legislators on the basis of over 25 bills that focus on principles of the Constitution, limited government, free market economy, separation of powers, and the family.

Senator Dayton is new to the senate but she is a veteran legislator, having served 10 years in the House of Representatives.

In our legislative race last year, Ms. Dayton attended the debate between Greg Hughes and my wife, Lisa Johnson. I met her and had a brief but friendly discussion. One thing she said to me was "your wife is very glib." I hope that was meant as a complement...hard to say, though :-) She's a tough lady. Kind of a Mormon Margaret Thatcher. Am I right??? C'mon I bet she has a picture of the Iron Lady on her fridge.

Margaret could show her compassionate side a little more. I think of the 2006 hearing regarding in-state tuition rates for undocumented students. Yikes.

Thanks...Craig

P.S. must every anonymous wimp castigate the UEA? Go and visit them sometime - they're just people like the rest of us. Sheesh.

As a constituent of Sen. Dayton, I am proud that she got this award. She deserves it.

She is a true conservative in every sense of the word.

Thanks RJ. And thanks Craig.

What an honor to be likened to Margaret Thatcher and accused of having more in common with her than our first names! Yes, I DO have her picture. In my office is a photo of her with another of my great conservative heroes, former Pres. Ronald Reagan. Not sure either of them ever advocated taking other people's taxes and doling out compassion. Kind they were - and kind I want to be (and would be flattered BTW if someone said I was glib!) but I am all about working Americans keeping more of their own money and allowing them to give charity where they deem appropriate.

" ...but I am all about working Americans keeping more of their own money and allowing them to give charity where they deem appropriate."

Then you won't support Senator Stephenson's capital equalization bill and allow Park City taxpayers to donate to his Alpine School District voluntarily?

A very conservative Mormon who only likes White people. I bet Margret Thatcher is on her fridge.

America would be a better place if more people thought this way.

P.S. The Senate District is much better represented since Margaret was elected!

What's with the Racial Attack?

Wow. Now I being accused of being racist? Me - who has Chinese grandchildren (adorable ones too) and beautiful Cuban grandchildren?? All of them legal - I may add - and their parents hard working taxpaying Americans. Amazing how one can be subject to attacks on color and creed in a blog focused on my voting record for lower taxes.

Do you love your Chinese and Cuban grandchildren as much as the white grandchildren? I have heard comments made by a few of your sons that are very racial. They have to learn it from some where.
