Golden Oldies

The voucher discussion has become a little . . . unsavory. Is anyone out there nostalgic for the old days when the debate was reasoned and statesmanlike?

Well, the original recordings of the chamber discussions on voucher policy are available online. . .
Here (HB 148)

and Here (HB 174).
Put them on the phonograph this weekend and enjoy.

Remember Rep. McIff's oratory? it was a total Mr. Smith goes to Washington moment. There had to be tomfoolery going on for that to not persuade even the most arm twisted conservative to vote against HB 148.

There are obviously smart people, good people, and smart good people on both sides of the voucher program. There are also charlatans on both sides, muddying the water.

In a referendum the people become the legislature. It's your job to sort it out and decide where you stand - hopefully based on more fact than emotion.

Welcome to the legislative process.

Ric,

Please name a charlatan on the anti-voucher side.

Thanks...Craig.

I don't think I'm going to feed that fire. But thanks for the invite.

Easy, rider. No one was calling you or anyone else a name. Both sides of this debate have their share of nobility as well as their share of the absurd. If you recognize it one side but not the other, you are probably not seeing things clearly.

This blog post was a reminder of the days when the debate was informative and statesmanlike.
