A shift in senate minority leadership: "The Utah Senate Democrat caucus met today and made changes in the leadership team (necessitated by the recent passing of Senator Ed Mayne). Senator Pat Jones was made Assistant Senate Minority Whip (replacing Senator Ed Mayne) and Senator Brent Goodfellow was elected Senate Minority Caucus Manager (replacing Senator Pat Jones)."

What I wanted to post over there but couldn't (because they require you to sign up) was: What does this mean? What practical impact does it have? Us non-politicos might wonder, especially with respect to the Democrats. I mean, there ain't much to whip there.
Hey VoU. Good question. The impact, beyond internal caucus assignments, is membership on 1) the Executive Appropriations Committee and 2) the Legislative Management Committee. Brent Goodfellow will be the newest member of both.
Those two committees are made up of the 4 elected leaders from each caucus in each chamber (for a total of 16 members).
