The final budget numbers are in. Now we can stop messing around.
One-time Money: $427.0 Million
Ongoing revenue: $349.0 Million
We spent part of that amount when we passed
the base budget bills. If we don't change the base budget, we will have . . .
One-time Money: $342.0 Million
Ongoing Revenue: $271.0 Million
. . . for a total of
$613.0 Million in new money to allocate during the 2008 legislative session.
This is the third highest surplus in Utah history. But it's a little less than we expected in December.
Here's the spreadsheet. Here's the
podcast of the media briefing.
As
Senator Hillyard said
on the Senate Channel today, this amount will be adequate to fund our needs but still not enough to pay for the entire checklist. Subcommittee requests are about four and a half times the available revenue.
So we make some tough choices.
And we balance the budget. And we finish the entire process by March 5th at midnight.
