I'm a bit surprised everyone is pointing out the benefits (a possibly stronger international presence), but no one has mentioned to correlated down-side: a relatively weaker negotiating position for SL/Utah government. Should Delta ever threaten to leave officials will feel obligated to give more incentives to a private company to keep them here.

I'm not saying the merger is bad, I'm just wondering why no one was brought up the potential downsides.
