The rest of the article notes that one possible reason for conservative happiness is that they see inequality, use that "can-do world view", and know that in this country anything is possible.

Liberals don't have the luxury of knowing that anyone can succeed regardless of their circumstance. So it's quite normal for them to be so upset all the time.
