A group of elected officials, including Mayor Kent Money,
Senator Waddoups and
Senator Buttars met with the governor today to talk about delaying the Jordan District split. They presented the governor with a petition and information showing stark imbalance in student enrollment, building needs, and taxable property value between the two new Jordan School Districts.
Here is
a PDF of the information.

Great political posturing. Let's get to the knife fight between the Jets and the Sharks and wrap this thing up.
No need to delay. That just rewards the bureaucrats. If they try to plead poverty, explosive growth, etc. don't forget that there are other districts with greater challenges than the new westside Jordan district.
Agreed, total political posturing. Instead of obstructing the process, why aren't these leaders trying to help? What good does a spiffy petition on enlarged cartstock do, other than provide good campaign material and a usable photo-op with the governor? Solutions, people, we are looking to our representatives and senators for solutions, and that takes collaboration and compromise not grandstanding!
wgw wrote that not only should Jordan be split as soon as possible, but Granite should have been split at State Street a long time ago, also. Additionally, add a provision that Cottonwood HS should be required to take in any student from anywhere in an effort to reach planned enrollment that has never been achieved since the school was built. Either that, or sell the campus to SLCC.
I think that the split just needs to happen and we need to be done with it! I am sick and tired of all the fighting and I want the focus to be on the kids again. We should also be thinking how we can make the new West Side District the best in the state. Sen. Waddoups let the East have their schools, and let's make our new West School District something to be proud of.
