Deseret News Reporter Misfire, Episode 37

Tucked at the very end of Bob Bernick's column today is this little piece of something that doesn't sound much like a mea culpa:
"I am often these days attacked by bloggers, and while I make an effort NOT to read the misinformation about me and my work (just keep on plugging away), I know for a fact how inaccurate and unfair blogs can be."
We are aware of very few bloggers that have recently addressed Mr. Bernick's work. Here they are:
The Senate Site: We're changing what?!
Steve Urquhart 1: Deseret News Fabricates Story
Steve Urquhart 2: Deseret News Fabricates More News
The Salt Lake Tribune's Out of Context and Salt Lake Crawler
Where is the alleged "misinformation?"

Who are the bloggers who are being inaccurate? Or unfair? The meeting with the Deseret News Editorial Board was recorded. The DNews should make the entire unedited conversation public and let people evaluate Mr. Bernick's work for themselves.

The only misinformation, Bob, is your continuing fabrications.

Freedom of the press is the cornerstone to our democracy. The press represents the people. Please, stop attacking the press.

The press does not represent the people. The press represents TO the people. Don't you think they should represent the truth?

Clementine is right but Anonymous 2:46 brings up a good point. The press is the big reason for the freedoms we still retain. I believe that with all my heart - and I am very concerned with the way newspapers are tanking while direct, non-objective information sources are on the rise. (And believe me, the irony here isn't lost on me.)

But good government requires effective public oversight, which demands independent, accurate news dissemination to the citizens - a.k.a. our board of directors. The Deseret News gave their readers a strong, inaccurate, negative impression about legislators' actions and intent. We felt we needed to set the record straight. Please don't interpret this as an attack on the press- most reporters who cover us do excellent work.

Anon 2,

You are joking, right? You believe that the press is the cornerstone to our democracy, but that we shouldn't point out that it is making up stories?

Odd.

I laughed out loud reading annon 2:46.

Please, please don't embarrass yourself by saying the press represents us.

I never voted for Bob Bernick.

Ric Cantrell does more for democracy that Bernick will ever do. I am much more impressed by people like Urquhart and Cantrell who have the courage to stand up to abusive, dishonest reporters.

When the press has an agenda and as in this case, an ax to grind, they do not represent we the people.

I shed no tear for any news organization that fails because it can't deliver the news without pushing an agenda.

Cannon should grow a backbone and dump Bernick over this.

Rep. Urquhart, Sen. Valentine, and Sen. Bramble have done a great job putting a spotlight on a couple of lazy and vindictive reporters.
