So. We're going to host a press conference for bloggers today. 4:00 p.m. Senate Rules Room. Come, if you can. Or watch it right here on the Senate Site.
Dial-in number: 1-800-511-7983
Access code: 740434
Call Laura if you have any problems: 801-201-3813
Senator Steve Urquhart, the oldest living
politician who blogs, will discuss an issue that is not at all partisan but is incredibly thought-provoking, a little controversial, and could very well mark a fundamental milestone in the way we communicate as a nation and society. Did you feel a wave of patriotic vertigo? Good.
See you at 4:00.
Special thanks to
Jason,
Jesse, and
Marshall for their
suggestions on Friday.

[UPDATE, 2/10/09 @ 10:44 p.m.:]To Utah bloggers: Respect! Thanks to those of you who were able to drop in and make the event worthwhile.
Here are some links.
Stats:
13 people joined in person
21 people watched on-line.
10 people joined the conference call (even though only two of you spoke up and introduced yourselves!).
Refreshingly low-key. Let's do it again before session ends.

A few details:
We'll gather around the table in the Senate Rules Room. High-speed wireless should be working swimmingly.
Senator Urquhart will make a few comments, followed by informal group discussion and Q & A.
Those of you that can make it to the Capitol can ask questions in person. Those that can't can watch live on-line.
We'll set up a conference call so folks can ask questions and give feedback. I'm taking bets on what Voice of Utah's actual voice sounds like. A.W. too. Hope all our bloggy friends can make it.
If you don't want to call in, you can also post questions by leaving a comment right here. Laura B will monitor this page through the conference and pass along all family-friendly correspondence.
I know there are chat gadgets and widgets that would work like a charm, but it's Session and I don't have time to mess with them before tomorrow, so I'm keeping it simple this time around.
Woot! Thanks for doing this Ric.
What are the details for getting on the conference call?
Jason, refresh your browser. The conference call info in on this post.

Ah my bad. I see it now. Thanks!
Where is the Senate Rules Room?
Come to the Senate Offices, Suite 320 in the State Capitol (North East corner) and tell the Sergeants that you are here for the bloggerpresser.....they will send you to the rules room.
I'm a little bit early, but the conference line doesn't seem to be working yet.
i would prefer to have a chat function... i have no problem setting up an account and logging in with my real name. :)
Grrr! Folks are asking my questions before I can ask. LOL.
Gotta drop off. But I think this was a huge success. Great bill, great blogger feedback, great idea.
I look forward to the next one!
Ethan's not really a blogger anymore, how come he's hogging all the questions?
Serious Question - Will the notices be permanently hosted or will they have an expiration date?
Thanks! I heard my answer!
This was great. My only request for the future would be a chat or IM option for interacting (I tried both stream and conference call, went with the stream as it was more involving to watch faces).
Thanks again for doing this.
Thanks for the input Jason. We were getting the comments fairly quickly so try posting a question in the future.
Thanks for coming everyone!
Thanks again!
Thanks everybody. Good to see you today. FYI - Senator Urquhart will be on the Nightside Project tonight at 10:00 p.m.

Utah newspapers get it when it comes to public notices. Statewide public notice web site in Beta.http://tinyurl.com/arup5j. Happy to give the other side to this story.

FOI Guy - Your beta website hurts my eyes. If that's an indication of how well newspapers "get it" my opinion remains the same.
