I am writing as a supporter of the Human Rights Campaign to express my concern about Sen. Chris Buttars' troubling statement that gay people are America's greatest threat.

I hope you will join the Human Rights Campaign in condemning these remarks. And I hope you will take official action by moving to censure Sen. Buttars.

Words matter. As an elected official, Sen. Buttars' words set an example for the public. It is irresponsible in the extreme for him to spread lies using abusive language -- "they're the meanest buggers I've ever seen" -- that disparages people with whom he disagrees.

These remarks are especially troubling in light of the growing danger of hate violence against LGBT Americans. As one of Utah's leading public servants, you have a responsibility to the safety and well-being of your citizens. I strongly urge you to take punitive action against Sen. Buttars' mean-spirited rhetoric.

I am writing in shocked response to Senator Buttar's vile and disgusting comments regarding homosexuality! I truly hope action will be taken to curb Senator Buttar's hurtful, prejudiced, homophobic language. He was attacking a minority in this country---- an action that we must not tolerate in the United States of America. In THIS Country we MUST protect all of our citizens (including all of our minority groups) by allowing them the entire agenda of civil rights that they are DUE. Our current President, Barack Obama, has already gone on record regarding the rights of the Gay Community in this country! He has an entire agenda of civil rights that he has promised to legislate during his term(s) in office.
I urge ALL American citizens to open their minds and learn more about these issues regarding civil rights, and then step up to the plate and do whatever it takes to support the legislation that it will take to achieve them!
