Representative Greg Hughes discussed the hazing issue on KSL's
Nightside Project last night. In the first hour, he questioned whether or not this is a problem that can be legislated. He also took questions and input from callers to the show.

No, this doesn't need legislation.. It needs consequences.
The people that do the hazing know it's wrong.. punish them thru the school level it's going on. Make them publically appolgize at a school assembly. Maybe if others witness the consequence, they will think twice before they do it.
What about the USU/Cache County DA Hazing death coverup in Logan?
Utah Code surrounding Hazing begs close re-examination. Following the death of Michael Starks in November 08, children continue to lose their lives in both the law-making world and civilain population in general continue to politicize, generalize, evade concrete legislation, succumb to special interests, marginalize. We need strong legislative leaders who are willing to go to the mat for our children's sake. With other hazing deaths bound to occur in Utah, I look to our judicial system, our law-making process, our prosecution system to work hard to deny continuing tragic deaths.
