If by "core of the issue" you mean being a bit too eager to condemn a stimulus plan by failing to acknowledge the difficulty and slow process of turning around the economy Mr. Bishop helped to demolish with his silence in the Bush years, and an irrational glorification of private industry that has as of yet proven no ability (or is it desire) to really operate in an environment of competition and cost reduction for consumers... well then I guess you have a point.
As for the rest of us living in reality, this sounds like little more than politically expedient oversimplification of the issue on the part of the Congressman, not cutting to "the core of the issue."
I've heard Bishop speak on this a few times, and as far as I can tell, he believes the Shaddegg bill (which can be summed up as "allowing families to buy into overpriced insurance just like their employer currently does, and placing everyone in gigantic regional risk pools... of still overpriced insurance") is the real solution.
Makes it a bit hard to take him seriously. We should expect a bit more analytical thinking from a federal delegate. And we should expect more of ourselves than to accept this "analysis" as cutting "to the core of the issue."
I thought the congressman was referring to the work Speaker Clark and Majority Leader Killpack are spearheading on Health System Reform.

You're right - it's a slow process, and politicians are often criticized unfairly.
Our strong opinion is - in most cases - a local solution will be more effective, less bureaucratic, more responsive, and less expensive.
Maybe the congressman missed the 3.5% GDP. For nothing working the Democrats are doing something seems to be working.
It is disappointing to see our congressional representative using federalism as an excuse for not showing some leadership on an issue that impacts so many Utah families.
And no matter what he says health care is still a matter of interstate commerce. Many people move from state to state and it is inefficient to be subjected to a patchwork of different plans implemented by each state.
The goal is to bring down health care costs for consumers and small businesses; congress has already begun working on a comprehensive plan - http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/60491-officials-lawmakers-get-preview-of-health-insurance-clearinghouse... Read More
It would be nice if our congressional representative would show some leadership on this issue instead of hiding behind a pretty weak federalism argument.
Do you really think that insulting our intellect is going to win the republicans votes?
Accusing the Democrats of reckless spending?! The only major spending bill past by the Democrats so far is the ARRA bill and it is what is keeping Utah above water. The entire rest of the spending is completely inheritance from the bush years, Obama to his credit has put the war spending on the budget rather then using supplemental spending bills like bush did to hide the amount of spending that was happening.
We don't even know the true extent of the Bush year spending, the amount of money taken from the FDIC after Republicans recklessly got rid of bank deposit requirements, The amount of extra currency simply printed, the amount of spending that happened in the Federal Reserve free from congressional scrutiny.
Excuse me if I sound a bit annoyed, I keep hearing this tired nonsense from the National Republican party The Utah State Republican party shouldn't have anything to do with this nonsense.
Somehow many of our party of 'NO' never notice their intellect is being insulted. They see everything in black and white and don't want to think about real solutions when platitudes about free enterprise keep them happy and get people like Bishop re-elected.
Meanwhile he will continue to enjoy his socialized medical plan like the Utah legislature. Of course it's not truly socialized, that's just a word the GOP throws around a lot. It's a public option they all use.
