I grew up in a military family and I spent some of my childhood years in other parts of the country. However, my parents always seemed to count Utah as our home. One of the things I love about Utah is the cultural emphasis on families. I sincerely believe that fostering a strong family is the fundamental principle in creating a better nation. I also believe that the Constitution is, and should always be, a vital part of our government. I love to be around my family.

I also love studying history - especially the personal histories of people living in whatever era I may be studying at the moment.

After graduating from BYU, I worked several years as a Registered Nurse. After my marriage to Dr. Lynn T. Dayton, I retired from nursing and was extremely fortunate to be a stay-at-home mother for my children.
